Marlon Peterson: Incarceration, Redemption, and an Abolitionist's Freedom Song

Marlon Peterson, a formerly incarcerated author and activist, challenges conventional views on crime, justice, race, and gender. He advocates for recentering humanity in accountability and embracing diverse identities within criminal justice discourse. His memoir, Bird Uncaged, documents his journey, exposing the brutality of incarceration and the hollowness of the American Dream.

Peterson's path began in Brooklyn, leading to 10 years in prison at 19 after trauma and a robbery. While incarcerated, he earned a degree and immersed himself in anti-violence and prison abolition activism. Join Peterson as he envisions a new world focused on healing, ending mass incarceration, and redefining justice. He will be in conversation with Jamilah King on WED, APR 21 / 3:00 PM PDT.
