Saru Jayaraman, President of One Fair Wage, Director of the Food Labor Research Center at UC Berkeley, founder of the Restaurant Opportunities Center and author of four books including: One Fair Wage: Ending All Sub-minimum Pay in America, is one of the most creative and effective labor organizers of our era.

Here she speaks to us about her work organizing restaurant and other low-wage workers over the last 20 years and the incredible moment of historic worker revolt currently underway in the United States, one that could have enormous implications for both climate justice and for our democracy.

Nick Estes, Ph.D. (Kul Wicasa/Lower Brule Sioux), is Assistant Professor of American Studies at the University of New Mexico and a member of the Oak Lake Writers Society, a group of Dakota, Nakota and Lakota writers. In 2014, he was a co-founder of The Red Nation in Albuquerque, NM, an organization dedicated to the liberation of Native people from capitalism and colonialism. He serves on its editorial collective and writes its bi-weekly newsletter. Nick Estes is also the author of "Our History Is the Future: Standing Rock Versus the Dakota Access Pipeline" and "The Long Tradition of Indigenous Resistance".

It also covers his rebirth as a musician and spoken word poet after his wife died in a house fire suspected as arson. Heather Rae produced and directed the film, which took her more than a decade to complete. Trudell aired nationally in the U.S. on April 11, 2006 as part of the Independent Lens series on PBS.
