One of the keys to our future security and sustainability is the empowerment of women. On the heels of International Women's Day, Vandana Shiva, Lester Brown, and Achim Steiner emphasize the need to empower all citizens to be part of the decisions that affect the next generation.

Excerpt from a teaching circle of Grandmother Agnes who is a presenter at the SEED Institute's Wisdom from the Origins conference, September 13 through 17th in ABQ, New Mexico. This teaching circle was held at the Earth Day 2012 Conference sponsored by the Earth & Spirit Council on April 20th, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. The videographer was Daniel Dixon of wisdomoftheelders.org.

Jasmina is a Serbian author, feminist, political activist (Women in Black, Code Pink), translator, and filmmaker.  In this TEDx presentation, she brings into consciousness the design of war beginning her story with the genocide in Srebrenica.  The killing of 8,000 muslims, a huge design of crime, is explored and linked to the abuse and pornography women in warfare.  Her message: Responsibility, ethics, morality: that is what design stands on.

Unreported stories of life in the developing world centers on the devastating consequences of cooking on an indoor, open fire and half the world lives this way - three billion people. Indoor air pollution kills more people than AIDS. Ethan Kay talks about cookstoves that eliminate smoke and fuel consumption asn ideal solution to this problem.

Saami youth describe issues affecting their culture due to climate change, most particularly how unstable conditions are affecting reindeer. Their best-known means of livelihood is semi-nomadic reindeer herding, with which about 10% of the Sami are connected and 2,800 actively involved on a full-time basis.
