Karina Gonzalez is a key student leader for Fossil Free Northern Arizona University (FFNAU), a campaign urging the university to divest from top fossil fuel corporations. She coordinates negotiations with the university president, leads recruitment, and manages media relations, securing national coverage for their efforts.

FFNAU is Arizona's sole divestment campaign, distinguished by its community partnerships. Gonzalez has fostered this by collaborating with the Black Mesa Water Coalition, an Indigenous environmental organization. Together, they advocate for university investment in Navajo Nation sustainability projects. Karina also coordinates a United Nations youth delegate leadership program.

On February 7, 2021, David Courchene III hosted Session 2 via Zoom, featuring the Red Shadow Singers and Knowledge Keepers Mary and Robert Maytwayashing, and singer Cody Courchene. The session focused on translating ceremonial songs.

Mary Maytwayashing shared the Ojibwe translation and significance of the Nibi Water Song, received in a dream. Cody Courchene presented the Turtle, Black Bear, and Calling In Songs, which were translated by Robert Maytwayashing.

Growing up in Detroit, Brittany Stallworth, a 2012 Brower Youth Award Winner, faced environmental injustice, including limited healthy food access and exposure to factory emissions. This experience fueled her to establish "Green is the New Black" at Howard University, a campaign dedicated to food and environmental justice.

Through her initiative, Stallworth organized expert-led workshops for students and a symposium that connected over 35 green organizations with college students for internships and jobs. Her passion has inspired others to advance food accessibility and environmental justice in underserved communities.

Susan McEwen, co-owner of Yoga and Refill Quarter, introduces the idea of a coalition for conscious sustainable living. Drawing on her peace-building experience and insights from Black Lives Matter, she brings this new concept to Belfast through her stores, now with a second location on the Lisburn Road.

Her extensive background includes nurturing intentional communities and working internationally in peace-building, uniting diverse groups towards shared visions. This passion now drives her commitment to conscious and sustainable living.

We are living in a very exciting time as we witness more instances of successful Indigenous-led #landback campaigns and triumphs over the extraction industry than ever before, but we are also becoming increasingly aware that we cannot restore relations with the land without addressing our own trauma. This session will explore such critical questions as: How might the fight for #landback benefit from the inclusion of Black people and other historically marginalized groups? Does ‘call out culture’ actually harm decolonization movements?  In addition to frankly exploring these issues, the panelists will share practical strategies for addressing them using such tools as an intergenerational focus, ceremony, and time on the land.  Moderated by Eriel Deranger. This film delves into themes of inclusion, identity, and hand-drawn heroes, centered on mountain biker, skier, and artist Brooklyn Bell. Unable to find a hero, Bell created Ruby J, a comic character who became her powerful role model.

Inspired by Ruby, Bell embraced the mantra to "live like her, breathe like her, be unapologetically black like her," ultimately forging her own identity through a blend of dirt, snow, art, and inclusion.
