Samantha Mariano, a junior at West Virginia University (WVU), majors in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a Spanish minor. Passionate about community well-being, she actively addresses mental health and environmental issues, sharing her ideas to educate and inform.

Within WVU, Sam contributes mental health articles to Her Campus WVU and advocates for better mental health resources and campus sustainability through Active Minds WVU and the Sierra Student Coalition. She also serves as an officer for Engineers Without Borders, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Society of Women Engineers, dedicating time to engineering projects.

The "Rights of Nature" movement aims to protect rivers, mountains, and entire ecosystems by recognizing their inherent legal rights to exist, persist, flourish, and evolve, rather than treating them as property. This radical framework has gained global momentum, spreading from tribal lands to cities and nations.

In this session, activist attorneys Frank Bibeau, Thomas Linzey, and Samantha Skenandore, moderated by Alexis Bunten, will update us on their successes and challenges in Indian Country and beyond.
