Laurence Kemball-Cook's Talk, "Turning Our Cities Into Human Power Plants", at TEDxBerlin 2012 "Future 3.0". Pavegen embeds power generating technology into pavement so that the energy we generate when we walk is usable making human action an alternative source of energy.
Sustainability doesn't have to be complicated, the idea being to change your behavior and move from consumer to conserver. This short video is an example of tips and suggestions for conserving energy. Ed Begley, Jr. is an actor and environmentalist. Read more about him here. This series is sponsored by a non-profit, Energy Upgrade Los Angeles This program is funded in part through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Rocky Mountain Institute visited the University of California, San Diego to study and document the "microgrid" that controls and integrates electricity supply and demand on the campus. UCSD's microgrid is one of the best examples of an electricity network that provides local control yet is interconnected with the larger electricity grid. At UCSD, the microgrid provides the ability to manage 42 megawatts of generating capacity.

ncluding a central cogeneration plant, an array of solar photovoltaic installations and a fuel cell that operates on natural gas reclaimed from a landfill site.
Whether we want it or not, the "smart grid" is on its way. In this animated guide we show you the essential features. From the folks at Scientific American, visit their YouTube Channel for more video.
Professor Bartlett explains "sustainability" in the context of the First Law of Sustainability. Problems at local, national, and global levels are all tied together with arithmetic. And our greatest shortcoming is our inability to understand the exponential function.
Dr. Albert Bartlett discusses the implications of unending growth on economies, population, and resources. Presented at UBC on 5/19/2011. For more information, see http://www.AlBartlett.org .
In response to Germany's expanded reliance on nuclear energy, Ursula Sladek, Goldman Prize winnder, created her country's first cooperatively-owned renewable power company. Learn more at http://www.goldmanprize.org/2011/europe.
Dr. Shahzeen Attarti discusses her findings regarding public perceptions of energy consumption. She notes that, contrary to the findings of researchers, the public tends to view energy curtailment rather than efficiency as the better means of reducing energy consumption. Dr. Attari notes that the public tends to make small overestimates regarding energy expenditures associated with low-energy behaviors and large underestimates for those associated with large-energy behaviors. Dr. Attari mentions factors shown to correlate with accuracy of prediction. Presented at the Garrison Institute's Climate, Buildings and Behavior Symposium, May 2010.
Dr. Shahzeen Attari discusses possible causes and effects of global climate change. She asserts that US has a responsibility to work on reducing its carbon emissions and mentions the differences between supply and demand-side solutions.
Dr. Attari provides an overview of the rest of her presentation, which will include discussions of public perception of energy consumption, the preferred methods of inducing behavioral change, and her current research. Presented at the Garrison Institute's Climate, Buildings and Behavior Symposium, May 2010.
Anthony Chang presents on his experience operating a large, commercial office building in NYC. He presents a discussion, from the perspective of a building operator, of the development and implementation of greening measures in a large, commercial office building. Presented at the Garrison Institute's Climate, Buildings and Behavior Symposium, May 2010.
