Governments worldwide are increasingly concerned about the safe and secure use of digital technologies, given the rise in cybersecurity threats, identity theft, misinformation, hate speech, and online violence. Social media's role and associated risks have gained significant attention, prompting policymakers to implement standards and share best practices.

This session will explore how to address and mitigate these risks through digital education and skills development programs. It will feature various stakeholders and showcase best practice examples for educating citizens on the safe and secure use of online information.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, two key sessions will explore digital innovation and safety.

From 14:00-15:15, "Digital Innovators and Entrepreneurs" will showcase young entrepreneurs' groundbreaking products and services. These initiatives aim to enhance digital skills and bridge the digital divide in developing countries, empowering communities for the digital age. Attendees will gain insights into challenges and impact.

The subsequent session, "Skills for a Safe and Secure Use of Digital Technologies," from 15:45-17:00, addresses critical online risks. Experts will discuss mitigating cybersecurity threats, misinformation, and cyberbullying through digital education and skill development programs, promoting responsible digital citizenship.

Ethnographic filmmaker David MacDougall was interviewed by EarthSayers.tv in April 2014, focusing on children in Indian institutional settings. His projects include films from The Doon School, such as "Doon School Chronicles" (2000), and work at Rishi Valley School. His experimental film "SchoolScapes" (2007), made at Rishi Valley, won the Basil Wright Film Prize. His latest film, "Gandhi's Children" (2008), focuses on a New Delhi children's shelter.
