European business networks are actively pursuing climate ambition, recognizing the economic, social, and environmental benefits of transitioning to a climate-neutral, sustainable Europe. A recent event convened these networks with policymakers to discuss how businesses can advance Europe’s climate neutrality and the "Fit for 55" package, especially amidst the energy challenges from the Ukraine war and RePowerEU.

Speakers presented business-led solutions to scale renewable energy, boost efficiency, accelerate industrial decarbonization, and stimulate green investments. Discussions focused on policies empowering businesses to address the climate and energy crisis while enhancing the EU’s sustainable competitiveness. Chaired by Ursula Woodburn of CLG Europe, the event featured key policymakers and business leaders.

The Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond, hosted virtually by the Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN) from June 23-28, 2025, convened over 125 grassroots and frontline women leaders, global advocates, and policymakers from 50 countries. This forum featured 25 unique panels showcasing diverse visions, projects, and strategies to accelerate a transformative path to a healthy and just world, with interpretation available in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

Among the key sessions was the panel “Healing Justice in the Climate Crisis: Restoring Mind, Body, and Spirit,” held on June 25th. Panelists included Cara Page (Changing Frequencies, Healing Histories Project, Turtle Island/USA), Zainab Salbi (Daughters for Earth, Turtle Island/USA), Dr. Vivian Tatiana Camacho Hinojosa (Ancestral Traditional Medicine, Bolivia), Nina Simons (Bioneers, Turtle Island/USA), and Daiara Tukano (Indigenous activist and artist, Brazil). Key speakers included officials from the European Commission (Yvon Slingenberg, Ruth Reichstein), European Parliament (Pascal Canfin, Nicolás González Casares), and national ministries (Tomas Lindman, Peter Wittoeck). Leaders from various business and climate organizations, such as CER Slovenia, Skift Business Climate Leaders, Spanish Green Growth Group, Haga Initiative, VELUX Czech Republic, Stiftung Klimawirschaft, We Mean Business Coalition, and CISL, also participated. Ursula Woodburn (CLG Europe) chaired the event.

This event, held on Friday, November 5th, in Glasgow, convened leaders from government, finance, and corporate sectors. Participants examined current progress and discussed essential actions beyond COP26 to halve global emissions by 2030, foster post-pandemic recovery, and build climate resilience for communities and nature. Experts shared diverse perspectives on these critical challenges.

During the UN Climate Ambition Summit on September 20, WECAN hosted an event where women leaders called on governments to halt fossil fuel extraction. They urged investment in a Just Transition, grounded in climate justice, care economies, and Indigenous rights, rather than business as usual.

The event featured two panels. The first, "Women Ending the Era of Fossil Fuels," discussed transitioning away from extraction and policy advocacy. The second, "Women-led Climate Solutions Are Central to a Just Transition and Thriving Future," showcased successful community-led climate solutions.

The WECAN Indigenous Women of the Ecuadorian Amazon Reforestation and Forest Protection project, led by Kichwa Pueblo leader Patricia Gualinga, restores and defends 135,000 hectares of Sarayaku territory. This project safeguards endemic tree species through reforestation, forest monitoring, and advocacy, explicitly avoiding market-based mechanisms like carbon offsets. At COP30 in Belém, Brazil, on November 13, WECAN hosted a press conference where Amazonian leaders issued urgent calls to protect Indigenous rights, women land defenders, forests, water, communities, and the global climate.

WECAN also launched its “Escazú Agreement Toolkit for Women Land Defenders and Frontline Communities.” This resource offers eleven country-specific guides to help women land defenders navigate domestic laws for Escazú Agreement protections, ensuring their rights and environmental safeguards.
