The panel “Narratives Matter: Social Media And Stories As A Tool For Climate Action And Education” was held on Tuesday, June 24th, during the Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond hosted by Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN), June 23-28, 2025.

Organized by the Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN), the Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond brought together over 125 grassroots and frontline women leaders in all their diversity, global advocates, thought leaders, and policymakers representing 50 countries from around the world. During 25 unique panels, speakers showcased a diverse array of visions, projects, policy frameworks, campaigns, and movement strategies with which we can accelerate a bold and transformative path to a healthy and just world.

WECAN organized a COP29 press conference featuring Brazilian Indigenous women leaders. They advocated for Indigenous rights, forest and water protection, community well-being, and global climate action, with a focus on the path to COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

Speakers included Puyr Tembé, Concita Sôpré, and Lucimara Patté, all co-founders of Ancestral Indigenous Women Warriors (ANMIGA). Moderated by Osprey Orielle Lake (WECAN), the event highlighted the critical role of Indigenous women in safeguarding Amazonian biodiversity and connected biomes.

These actions targeted destructive policies, climate-killing fossil fuels, widespread chemical approvals, and the despoilment of vital ecosystems like the Everglades. We also fought corruption threatening wilderness areas and defended national parks from exploitation.

These include tick-borne diseases, allergies, asthma, and waterborne illnesses, which are increasing in frequency and disproportionately affect vulnerable communities.

As past president of the American College of Physicians and a co-author of their 2015 position paper, Dr. Damle is a leading voice on the human health effects of climate change. He speaks globally, is a founding member of the Medical Societies Consortium on Climate Change, and advocates for mitigation efforts to legislative bodies and health departments.
