This event convened diverse women and gender-diverse leaders from grassroots to global levels, alongside advocates and policymakers. They shared insights on the climate crisis, COP27, and strategies for advancing just, community-led solutions to interlocking global challenges.

Notable speakers included Jacqui Patterson (The Chisholm Legacy Project), Diana Duarte (MADRE), Farhana Yamin (Chatham House), and Jade Begay (NDN Collective), who also served as moderator and is WECAN's Executive Director.

The event was part of the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) three-day Climate Justice Forum, "Facing the Climate Emergency on the Road to COP27," held September 20-22.

Dr. McGee is also dedicated to addressing barriers for Black women in natural resources careers. She co-founded a program with Delta Sigma Theta to introduce middle school girls to these fields. A Forbes 30 Under 30 lister and AAAS IF/THEN STEM Ambassador, she engages audiences via social media, including her popular #FindThatLizard game and her accounts at @Afro_Herper on Twitter and Instagram.

An Overtown resident, Crooks is co-founder of KonsciousKontraktors Ink and CEO of Ti Ayiti Preparedness And Relief Institution (TAPARI). Her direct experience with Miami’s climate justice issues inspired her to co-found the Black Butterfly Collective, an environmental justice and wellness project supporting Black women in the fight against climate change.

Racism denies humanity, sexism demeans, and their intersection limits true freedom. Frances Cudjoe-Waters, a Black woman and Harvard Law alumna, realized the exhaustion of politely presenting her pain to predominantly white audiences. She decided to abandon polite conversation and speak her truth, declaring, "I Ain't Sorry." She never expected to witness the reemergence of civil rights issues like Charlottesville and repeated acquittals for killings of Black individuals, reminiscent of the 1960s. While seeking to facilitate discussions, she recognized the toll of maintaining dispassionate intellectualism. Her family was featured in the Dallas Morning News.
