Currently, he is Director of Native American Studies and an Associate Professor in the Division of Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies in the College of Education at the University of New Mexico. He holds a Ph.D. from International College – Los Angeles New Philosophy Program in Social Science Education with an emphasis in Native American Studies.

This talk draws upon Sue's experience of studying wild rabbits for her PhD and calls for a return to the bio-abundance of the past, partly through a rethinking of housing policy - by viewing houses as homes rather than investment opportunities Sue has served her home town of Wallingford as both a Town Councillor and later, a District Councillor, as well as being involved in the Transport Group of Sustainable Wallingford. As an environmental campaigner she fights overdevelopment and loss of communal facilities, working towards a new target for nature restoration (back to the ‘50s) to nurture our precious land for climate control and for nature, whilst building homes for need not greed. She holds a doctorate from Oxford University on the social behaviour of wild rabbits, a once familiar sight in the UK, but sadly now on the endangered species Red List. This win also establishes new nationwide policy giving Tribes veto power over permits targeting their land. JustUs is the story of a family in the Española Valley of New Mexico ministering to their community during an epidemic of heroin addiction and political corruption.  This location is the homeland of a variety of Indigenous tribes.  In 1598 Spanish Conquistadores attempted to colonize this area. The Pueblo rebellion of 1680 was a reaction to enslavement that resonates with historical traumas that even remain today.  Most of the people here are bi-racial. For nearly half her life, Heidi Kritz has been working to protect Alaska’s Bristol Bay from the Pebble Mine project. The proposed copper and gold mining project threatens the bay, which is the largest salmon fishery in the world and is critical to the local economy, ecological stability, and native peoples way of life. Kritz and her community have fought tirelessly against the project both within Alaska and the Lower 48 states. She has helped organize rallies, worked on a massive letter writing campaign against the mine project that ultimately gathered more than 6,000 voices, and has helped mobilize a new generation of regional activists by working with high school students in tribal schools. Kritz’s leadership has added momentum to a decade-long fight to protect the Bristol Bay watershed, and she plans keep up the fight to defend the land and her home.
