Rimp Dorjee Lepcha is a Senior Engineer with the Sikkim State Government and has served as the Project Director for the Asian Development Bank project for South Asia Tourism Infrastructure Development Project in the state. In addition to being the President of the Rotary Club, Gangtok South, he has also been nominated as India’s Goodwill Ambassador to Brazil. As a member of the Hazard Safety Cell, he has done a great deal of good work in post-earthquake rehabilitation with regard to raising funds and execution. Based on his valuable contribution, he was invited by the government of Taiwan as a ‘Future Leader of South Asia’. He has also been invited by the United States Government for an international Visitors Leadership Program on disaster management. He is a reader, a music enthusiast and an adventurer but at the heart of it all, he is passionate about the well being of the mountains that he calls home. Watch him speak from the heart about how plans for sustainability and averting disaster have been put to action and can be spread far and wide. He talks about the Himalayas as the 'third pole' of the world. He also speaks about how the children of the world must be educated in the culture of sustainability, and respect for resources, like it, is done in the mountainous regions. McElroy leads the Diocese of San Diego and is an outspoken proponent of the urgent need for the Catholic Church to address climate change. Bishop McElroy holds degrees in American history from Harvard College and Stanford University and is the author of two books: The Search for an American Public Theology andMorality and American Foreign Policy. In addition, he has written a series of articles in America magazine touching upon key elements of Catholic social teaching. He was born in 1954, was ordained in 1970, appointed Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco in 2010 and named Sixth Bishop of San Diego by Pope Francis in 2015. Bishop McElroy is the vice-president of the California Catholic Conference and serves at the national conference of bishops on the administrative committee, the ecumenical committee, the committee on domestic justice and the committee on international affairs. Jose Aguto will close out our conference with a call to action, addressing the important role of the laity to motivate and inform the church and the need and responsibility for advocacy. He'll also share his personal story of his passion to Care for Creation and how it is guided by his Catholic faith and strengthened by Laudato Si' to care for the poor and our earth. Jose is the Associate Director of the Catholic Climate Covenant, which collaborates with other Catholic organizations to advance the Church's call for us to love and care for God's creation and our vulnerable neighbors. Building bridges across differences is an important component of this work. Before joining the Covenant, Jose worked for the Friends Committee on National Legislation, the National Congress of American Indians, and EPA's American Indian Environmental Office. He graduated from Brown University and Villanova Law School and served with the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division. It’s already happening. It’s projected to increase dramatically. It’s not good. But there are adaptations to effectively forestall climate-driven migration according to Dr. William Schnell The Rev. Dr. William F. Schnell retired as a pastor in 2018 after a 35-year tenure, during which he concurrently served a 2-year term as President of the Ohio Council of Churches. Following retirement, he spent two weeks at Oxford University in its Summer Theology School. He then enrolled at Harvard University for a Graduate Certificate in Social Justice, which was completed in May of 2020. Most recently, in February 2021, he completed a Certificate in Climate Change and Health from Yale University. He is currently a climate activist and speaker trained by the Climate Reality Project! Jasmine Sanders and Clara Fang will discuss youth involvement in climate advocacy, how Our Climate is educating on carbon pricing, and how you can better engage youth in your community. Finally, Dr. Danny Richter will deliver a legislative update. Ms. Sanders is a climate scientist, strategist, advocate and native of Monroe, Louisiana. She is the Executive Director of Our Climate, a climate change advocacy organization energized by its youth grassroots movement. Striving to raise awareness to the intersecting effects of climate change and the communities of color who are disproportionately affected, she utilizes the positivity that results from uplifting our youth to make a global impact. Clara started volunteering with CCL in 2016 and now serves as the Student Engagement Director in which she engages students in climate advocacy and helps members conduct outreach to higher education. Prior to CCL, Clara had 15 years of experience implementing sustainability in higher education. She holds a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University and a MFA in Creative Writing from University of Utah. She is currently getting her PhD in Environmental Studies at Antioch University.
