The World Bank Group’s global campaign Film4Climate joined the documentary community at 2018 Cannes Film Festival (May 8 -18) to highlight the role that the creative industries can play to help encourage the necessary action needed from both governments and the general public to achieve a low-carbon resilient world. Working with the Marche du Film’s Doc Corner, Connect4Climate hosted a special presentation of Slater Jewell-Kemker's feature documentary Youth Unstoppable as well as a Climate Focus workshop. Connect4Climate was also a key partner for their annual Doc Day, which is the climax of the documentary program at Cannes. Recognizing the impact that the film industry, in particular, can have on younger generations and the power of emotional stories and images, Film4Climate’s intention is to help build a global network of knowledge partners within the film industry who are committed to climate action, environmental protection and social equity, and feel the medium can be used to great effect to influence behavior.

Speaker bio: Tracey Osborne is an Associate Professor, Vice Chair and Presidential Chair in the Management of Complex Systems Department at the University of California, Merced. Tracey's research focuses on the social & political economic dimensions of climate change mitigation in tropical forests & the role of Indigenous Peoples, the politics of climate finance and governance, and climate equity and justice. She's worked on these issues globally with extensive field experience in Mexico & the Amazon, is the founding Director of the new UC Center for Climate Justice & leads the Climate Alliance Mapping Project, a collaborative effort between academics, environmental non-governmental organizations, and Indigenous organizations working for a socially-just response to climate change through research, maps & digital stories. Her work has been published in high-impact geography, social science & interdisciplinary journals. She has been invited to share her research internationally in venues academic & non, such as Conference of the Parties climate change meetings. She received her PhD from the Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley. High-quality apprenticeships, carefully planned internships, and volunteering programs can serve as valuable entry points into the job market for first-time jobseekers and recent graduates. Jean Mary Tjiohimba, who is from the Khwe community of South Africa talks to us about the successes and struggles of the Youth in her community. With over 40 percent of the world's population under the age of 25, there are currently about 1.2 billion young people in the world. Youth are a global asset, and investing in youth and safeguarding their interests is critical for both social and economic stability. Jean Mary tells about about some of the challenges faced by the youth in her community. Sharon uses a One Health holistic approach for wildlife conservation, public health, and sustainable ecosystems to ensure healthy animals, healthy people, and a healthy planet.
