Short for Cell-based Meat Facility, Project CMF is an ongoing design project by CAS, the Cellular Agriculture Society, conceptualizing what meat production may look like in New York by 2040, where animal cells are farmed instead of animals. Partner scientists of CAS, over a dozen of the leading cell-based meat scientists in the world, were consulted for Project CMF towards its goal in visualizing an ambitious, but realistic depiction of a meat production facility in 20 years. Taylor McKinnon is an artist by accident and an activist by trade. In this artist talk, McKinnon will discuss nature photography as a practice of natural history— of mutually reinforcing, deeply intertwined endeavors of observation, art, love, and activism. McKinnon will discuss the fight to protect most places he shoots. In this artist talk, learn about McKinnon’s process in the field and lightroom, laziness and the compositional freedom of long lenses, and the hobbled, pure process of finding minimalism and personal style absent art theory. McKinnon will also share some of his more abstract landscape photography not featured in the exhibit. Taylor McKinnon is an artist by accident and an activist by trade. McKinnon is the Southwest Director for the Center for Biological Diversity, overseeing the Center’s work to protect wildlands and endangered species in the Southwest. Mckinnon pursues nature photography as a practice of natural history— of mutually reinforcing, deeply intertwined endeavors of observation, art, love, and activism. There’s a fight to protect most places he shoots. In his advocacy, he works on a variety of fronts and has helped spearhead campaigns to end federal fossil fuel leasing and ban uranium mining around the Grand Canyon.

Henry Miller argues that local efforts to adapt to and ameliorate climate change require two essential guidelines. First, we must identify and understand how our local context as a living hydrographic system (watershed), is integrated with ecological, economic, social and political subsystems. This allows us to develop planning and management strategies that address how people's lives interact with their natural environment. Second, we must use a simple and clear language to communicate with local stakeholders, in order to educate, motivate, and finally, to generate options for decision making in the short term. Henry Miller has been working for more than twenty years in the Mexican countryside interacting directly with the rural and indigenous population, serving as an intermediary between cultures, representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations, gathering information and transferring knowledge related to community development, food production and sustainable management of natural resources. He is currently the director of the non-profit El Maíz Más Pequeño whose mission is to contribute to the development of Mexico through the promotion of adaptive governance, education for life and ecological territorial management in the face of climate change. Between 2016 and 2019, he was the coordinator of the project Watersheds, People, Water and Climate Change: adaptation processes in the Támbula Sub-Basin.
