She provides insights into the quantitative (functional side of food) as well as into the qualitative (our wellbeing) approach to the optimal selection of energy-giving foods. An essential point of her talk is the focus on mindfulness about the effects of food on our energy balance. She also encourages everyone to take a critical look at various products for the so called “best energy kick”, promising to become higher, faster, further individuals, as there is no evidence that a single food can provide an energy boost. He developed a curiosity in Science while he was at school and later graduated from Imperial College of London with a Masters in Science in Chemical Engineering. He co-founded a Start-Up, wherein they developed a pioneering material from the leftover biomass and was invited to the Buckingham Palace by Her Excellency Queen Elizabeth ll for this achievement. He's the founder & CEO of Craste, a TechStars company, founded on the principle of “maximum efficiency, zero waste” and is a global accelerator. Shubham has received various awards for his initiative. Notably, the BIRAC SoCH Innovation award from Minister of Science & Technology and Rural Innovation Award at National Conference on Social Innovation. He appeals all the countries to come together to work for reduction of carbon emissions binding themselves to the Paris Agreement. He emphasizes that countries need big hearts to move parallel with the Paris Agreement. He announced establishment of Eco-Clubs in his Institutions so that the young minds will carry the movement forward with greater dedication for future generations. This talk will introduce you to the fascinating geology and history of Sunset Crater, the youngest and best-preserved volcano in Arizona! Sunset Crater erupted only 940 years ago, creating a cinder or scoria cone, and it is one of over 600 short-lived volcanoes in northern Arizona’s San Francisco volcanic field. Its eruption had very significant impacts, both positive and negative, on the northern Sinagua Indigenous people living in its vicinity. Geologist Dr. Jeffrey Meyer will share the story of this eruption and detail his recent work mapping the Bonito lava flow, which came out of the cone’s western base and traveled to the west against an uphill slope. It is unique among lava flows in having traveled uphill, and, as such, can serve as an end-member example of processes that occur in flows on flat terrain. For 28 years, he was a community college geology instructor, and always kept active through teaching in the field. Upon retirement, Dr. Meyer and his wife, who is also a geologist, moved to Prescott into a home that her parents built. He has continued to teach geology part-time at Prescott College. While camping at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, he noticed and became curious about unusual features of the Bonito flow, a prominent flow from the crater. He located recent Lidar data, and started mapping the flow, first by computer, and later in the field. Dr. Meyer is eager to share his recent research and continue to pursue his love of teaching through this program with the Natural History Institute. This one event launched her into the world of extreme climate change activism. She is now a member of the climate protest group, Extinction Rebellion. She talks about her dramatic transformation and the strength she has found being in community with fellow climate activists. Artist Shane Petzer in Barrydale, South Africa talks about turning trash into art. Through the Magpie Art Collective, he and fellow artists create breathtakingly beautiful chandeliers all made from trash. Two of these hung in the White House in the Obama’s private quarters. During this time of Coronavirus lockdown, Magpie Art Collective have partnered with the Quakers in the Western Cape to create #QuakerPeaceDoves. Find out about how you can take part in the collective remotely and turn your trash into art. And in the USA we feature Solomon Goldstein-Rose. In 2017 at the age 22 Solomon was elected to Massachusetts legislature. After a two year term, he decided he would not run again. How do we guarantee enough food, fairly, for the world’s rapidly expanding population? Would an act of investing to the rural youth as a way to build inclusive economic development answer a piece of the puzzle? Trying to answer the questions, Helianti Hilman founded JAVARA and Seniman Pangan (translated to food artisan), working with smallholder farmers and food producers, nurtures rural entrepreneurs and creates a wide range of fine organic food products of rural Indonesia to serve domestic and export markets. On October 18 Dr. Sharon Blackie explored stories, myths, fairy tales, and archetypes illustrating the transformative potential of time spent in inner inquiry, and how doing so might help to shift the collective mindset. She highlighted ways of using the old stories to reflect on today's challenges. During this interactive session, we discussed how time spent in solitude and in nature helps us to listen, participate in a reciprocal relationship with the animate world we belong to, and to deepen our sense of kinship. The session concluded with the challenge to attendees: what are the foundational shifts we need to make to participate in the larger possibility of metamorphosis? Dr. Sharon Blackie is an award-winning writer, psychologist, and mythologist. Her highly acclaimed books, courses, lectures and workshops are focused on reimagining womens’ stories, and on the relevance of myths, fairy tales and folk traditions to the personal, cultural and environmental problems we face today. When we think of waste, we normaly don`t think about fethers. But keratine waste is a big problem in the food industry because it does not decompose easily. Current waste management of fether waste is most often limited to burning them or soaking them in chemicals. Microorganisms help us solve this problem much better. Beti has been passionate about the world of microorganisms since a very early age. She is a Young Researcher at the Microbiology and Microbe Biotechnology Department at the Biotechnical Faculty. Nowadays, Beti is working on her doctorate, researching the decomposition of keratin waste with microbes in the agro-industry. Beti is also very active at raising awareness about science and spreading the knowledge among people. She is a member of Science on the Street (Slo. Znanost na cesti) and has participated in several science slams, including the European Science Slam in which she represented Slovenia in September 2019. Beti's vision is to take projects from laboratory to practice, and is guided by a single idea: ""For those who are curious, the whole world is a laboratory. Beti je mlada raziskovalka na Katedri za mikrobiologijo in mikrobno biotehnologijo Biotehniške fakultete. Zase pravi, da jo je svet mikroorganizmov odnesel že zelo zgodaj.
