How do you build long lasting relationships? That is a question we ask ourselves as strong relationships are something we desire in our lives. A concept of 'deep trust', translated from the Chinese ‘xìn rèn’ originated in China and can be traced back to Confucius. It was carried into different countries within the past few decades and is seen as a foundation for building sustainable interpersonal relationships. I will discuss my experience of growing up in China and reflecting on ways in which each and every person can easily incorporate this concept into their lives to build long lasting relationships. Anna Metz, a 17 year old student from Germany, is currently in Shanghai, China. Despite holding a German passport, Anna has lived in China all her life, and loves to connect to people in daily life and build relationships with peers from all over the world. She is a curious individual, being very much intrigued by questions regarding social, philosophical and economic issues. Anna's eagerness to learn more about different cultures has led to her continuous involvement in Model United Nations, which has nurtured her global awareness and strengthened her understanding regarding inter-cultural phenomena. Cities will be the driving force for action on climate change in this decade, as local solutions are developed to protect communities, systems and the economy from the effects of our changing climate. Belfast’s Commissioner for Resilience, Grainia Long, outlines the strength of collaboration across the city, the practical solutions being developed, and how this decade will truly be a milestone for global ambition, with local delivery! Grainia Long is Commissioner for Resilience for the city of Belfast, based in Belfast City Council. Her role was created following Belfast’s membership of the global 100 Resilient Cities network, funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. Previous to this, she was Chief Executive of the national child protection charity in the Republic of Ireland, ISPCC Childline. This position followed several years working in housing, including as Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), and previously National Director of the CIH in Northern Ireland. She has served two terms as a member of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission, was a member of the Lyons Commission on Housing Supply and Advisor to the Best Commission on the Future of Housing in Northern Ireland. She is currently Chair of Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing Trust, a social housing provider in England, and Senior Independent Director on MTVH Group Board.
