With President-elect Joe Biden vowing to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement in January — and as we celebrate the 5-year anniversary of that accord — we turn to Christiana Figueres to get an overview of where things stand globally on national commitments to fight climate change and what's needed going forward. Figueres was Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from 2010 until 2016, during which she marshaled 196 countries to sign the Paris accord in 2015. Following her tenure with the UNFCCC, she co-founded Global Optimism, which "exists to catalyse transformative actions in our world" to tackle climate change. Youth are taking climate action into their own hands, and their voices are being heard! Alexandria Villasenor and Alexander Posner will talk about their climate advocacy, how other young people can get involved, and how adults can be allies. Alexander Posner, President for Students for Carbon Dividends Alexander Posner is the Founding President of Students for Carbon Dividends (S4CD), a youth-led movement that aims to catapult a consensus climate solution—specifically the carbon dividends framework—into the national spotlight and open the door to a bipartisan climate breakthrough. Alex is a 2019 graduate of Yale University. Alexandria Villaseñor is an American climate activist living in New York. A follower of the Fridays for Future movement and of fellow climate activist Greta Thunberg, Villaseñor is a co-founder of US Youth Climate Strike and founder of Earth Uprising. Sara Saucedo, Regional Fellow for CCL Tornadoes Region Sara served as the first Tornadoes Regional Fellow and a member of CCL for 4 years. She recently completed her Masters degree at AR State Univ. in Environmental Science with a Public Policy and Economics emphasis. She started the first Environmental Club at A-State reaching nearly 500 members in the past three years. She was accepted as an Environmental Fellow for the Yale School of the Environment and University of Michigan for the summer.

They emerge with the rains in a riot of colors, like a coral reef on the forest floor. Red, yellow, brown, spotted, slick, porous, gilled - mushrooms come in a dazzling variety of shapes, sizes, and descriptions. What we see, however, whether on the ground or on stumps and rotting logs, is only a tiny part of a fungus. Sometimes called the "ephemeral fruiting body," a mushroom is by nature temporary, rising to spread spores before melting back into the soil. In this talk by local mushroom expert (and former Arizona Mushroom Society president) Chris May, learn all you wanted to know about the mushrooms of Arizona: some you can eat, some to avoid, and most of all, how to open your eyes to the marvelous fungal diversity all around us. Chris May grew up in the forested Bradshaw Mountains south of Prescott surrounded by colorful mushrooms every monsoon season, but never knew anything about them until he picked and identified a porcini mushroom in 2012. Since then, they have become a passion bordering on obsession, to the point of serving as president of the Arizona Mushroom Society from 2016 to 2019. He is a member of the Toxicology Committee of the North American Mycological Association and a NAMA-designated mushroom identifier who is consulted by local physicians and veterinarians in cases of suspected mushroom poisoning. He has guided forays at the Telluride Mushroom Festival and many other events, and has traveled as far afield as Poland, Italy, Maine and Oregon in search of the jewels of the forest. He has safely picked and eaten 88 different species of fungi in Arizona. He and his wife Barbara live in Scottsdale, where he is a radiologist.
