JP Viñals joined Activists Coming To Inform Our Neighborhood (ACTION) in 2013 to address environmental and social issues in Hunts Point, South Bronx. The neighborhood, home to New York's largest food distribution center, endures 15,000 daily trucks, causing severe air pollution and some of the nation's highest asthma rates.

As ACTION's president, Viñals focused on transforming the defunct 1.25-mile Sheridan Expressway into a vibrant boulevard. This expressway restricts access to the Bronx River and green spaces, forcing heavy truck traffic onto local streets, harming residents and contributing to pollution. ACTION supports a broader campaign to replace it with housing, hospitals, and green areas, leading school presentations and community education efforts.

In southern Angola’s Banda Chibia, drought once forced residents like Rita to walk for water. This struggle has ended. Through a partnership between the Government of Angola, the European Union, and FAO, the Banda Chibia Dam now secures water for agriculture and livelihoods. With over 21 million cubic meters capacity, it irrigates 750 hectares, supporting thousands and enabling climate-smart agriculture and resilience.

Farmer Field Schools taught communities efficient water management and sustainable farming, resulting in green fields, year-round harvests, and improved incomes. Rita now harvests food, not searching for water. This project demonstrates how partnership and innovation transform vulnerability into hope.

Maanit Goel, 17, from Washington State, learned about the critically endangered Southern Resident orcas. Only 75 remain in the Salish Sea, threatened by declining Chinook salmon, their primary food source, in the Snake River-Columbia River system.

In 2021, Goel founded the Washington Youth Ocean & River Conservation Alliance (WYORCA) to mobilize youth. WYORCA advocates removing four lower Snake River dams, impeding salmon migration and harming orcas. Goel argues renewable energy shouldn't sacrifice a keystone species. With 30 volunteers, WYORCA educated over 6,000 students, held 20+ congressional meetings, and coordinated events. The group earned Congressional recognition and an EPA award; Goel also spoke at the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15).

Members of the Tohono O’odham Nation in southern Arizona recently named the newest wild jaguar entering the U.S. from Mexico. They dubbed him O:ṣhad Ñu:kudam, meaning "Jaguar Protector" in the O’odham language. Eight-year-old Kii’yaa’nii Ross, a Yaqui/Diné student who helped promote the naming through the EcoTruths for Indigenous Youth program, highlighted the jaguar's significance.
