This session was part of the Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice.

Organized by the Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN), the virtual Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond ran from June 23-28, 2025. It united over 125 grassroots women leaders, advocates, and policymakers from 50 countries.

The Global Women’s Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond, hosted virtually by the Women’s Earth and Climate Network (WECAN) from June 23-28, 2025, convened over 125 grassroots women leaders, advocates, and policymakers from 50 countries.

Among its 25 panels, “Well Being Economies for People and Planet” featured diverse global experts. The Assembly showcased visions, projects, and strategies to accelerate a transformative path towards a healthy and just world. Resources from the panel and entire Assembly are available here.

After the 2020 wildfires, Kyle Trefny became a wildland firefighter, connecting with peers passionate about transforming society's relationship with fire. This led him to co-found FireGeneration

After the 2020 wildfires, Kyle Trefny became a wildland firefighter, connecting with peers passionate about transforming society's relationship with fire. This led him to co-found FireGeneration Collaborative (FireGen) in 2022. FireGen is a youth-led organization dedicated to shifting wildfire management from short-term disaster response to long-term resilience and Indigenous leadership.

Trefny co-led FireGen's national campaign, advocating for youth roles in policy. This resulted in FireGen members advising a federal commission and Director Ryan Reed becoming the youngest federal advisor in US history. Trefny has also been instrumental in shaping FireGen's vision and securing over $350,000 in grants, empowering youth and Indigenous voices for the future.

Challenging the resource-intensive "bigger is better" trend of Large Language Models (LLMs), this webinar introduced the Expressive Neural Network (ENN). This novel architecture rethinks activation functions using classical signal processing (Discrete Cosine Transform), resulting in enhanced flexibility, faster convergence, and significantly smaller, more energy-efficient AI models.

ENNs demonstrate how traditional signal processing can inspire next-generation AI, enabling efficient edge computing in resource-constrained environments. This approach prioritizes expressiveness over sheer size for future neural networks. The webinar featured speaker Ana Pérez-Neira, moderated by Ian F. Akyildiz and Alessia Magliarditi. It was organized by the ITU Journal on Future and Evolving Technologies (ITU-J FET).
