The fashion industry in Los Angeles City alone includes more than 11,000 businesses and employs approximately 38,000 people, up 17% from 2014 to 2018. In April this year, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti released LA's Green New Deal, an ambitious update to the City's 2015 Sustainability pLAn. The Green New Deal outlines 445 initiatives for the city to achieve zero waste and net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Within its 13 chapters and 152 pages, the GND includes one statement concerning LA's fashion industry to "Engage the textile and apparel industry to develop and implement zero waste manufacturing strategies and divert unwanted garments from landfill."
