In this lyrical exploration, John Todd shares the essential principles of ecological design and reveals how mimicking nature’s forms and processes can lead to breakthrough design. He reveals the design secrets behind his award-winning eco-industrial park in Burlington, Vermont, and his strategies to clean up bodies of water from the marshes around Lake Champlain to the canals of Venice and South China. The main allies in his natural sewage treatment systems are native plants that help grow and feed bacteria, break down carcinogens, and sequester metals to produce clean water. His job is not to find a simple solution, but to evolve a technological and social framework that functions like a symphonic movement.

What began as a CSR activity became his calling as he soon left his job for restoring the city's water resources to their old glory. Anand, now turned environmental conservationist, has revived 7 lakes so far and aims to bring back 45 of the city's water bodies back to life by 2025. In 1887 the U.S. Government was pushing for the Dawes Act. The process of breaking up Indian land into individual ownership - which is directly against our ways. This was essentially a land grab. Many nations lost more than half of their land base during this time. The Chiefs of Red Lake, at the end of six days of unreasonable pressure of threats of starvation, death, and suffering, to adopt the Dawes Act, this was rejected. This love of the chiefs for the next seven generations strengthens our resolve. Renee's powerful message is to strengthen and validate our fight for the Rights of Mother Earth.

Back in the early days of the Ecology Action Center in the 1970’s and 1980’s, when the organization was known as Operation Recycle, profits from recycling drives were utilized for tree planting efforts at Comlara Park on Evergreen Lake. Those trees are now the wonderful woods that surround much of the lake. Trees provide natural beauty for all to enjoy year-round. Myra Gordon enjoyed a wide variety of careers during her working life. Starting out as a Girl Scout Professional in St. Louis and later for Centrillio Council of Girl Scouts here, she went on to work first as a volunteer and then as Executive Director for Operation Recycle when it was McLean County’s full time recycling center. After graduate school at Illinois State, Myra enjoyed a career at State Farm, retiring in 2006. Beginning in 2007, Myra enjoyed a bonus career as the Executive Director of the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation. She continues to work as a volunteer for a number of non-profit organizations, including the Ecology Action Center and the Immigration Project.
