Clem Ogilby a career preservationist with extensive experience in repurposing residential and commercial structures for clients embracing green building principles and practices yet seeking a traditional aesthetic or historic sense of place talks about his passion for preserving buildings and how demolition is often unnecessary and not a sustainability principle or practice. One of his current projects is Saving the Morris Marks House, built in 1880 and facing demolition in 2011 if not moved and restored this year. This video was produced by Ruth Ann Barrett of EarthSayers.tv, the voices of sustainability and was filmed by Barry Heidt and edited by Rob Russo.
Definition of sustainability and sustainable development must include preservation of existing and useful buildings, historic in particular, but not solely.

Roz Savage, British ocean rower and environmental campaigner, talks about how she made big changes in her lifestyle and a management consulting career to become the first woman ever to row solo across three oceans on behalf of Mother Earth. She uses her own experience to challenge the very idea that money and having stuff brings happiness. Defining success in the context of materialism stands in the way of moving forward with sustainability principles and practices. She recommends simplifying and paring down to the basics to discover and become in tune with your life purpose as the path to happiness.
To order her book, Stop Drifting, Start Rowing: One Woman's Search for Happiness and Meaning Alone on the Pacific, from Amazon click on the image or visit your local bookstore.

The national Community Rights movement represents a local level cultural and legal strategy for communities, both conservative and progressive, to begin to dismantle corporate rule from the local up! If you're a single issue activist, as Paul Cienfeugos was for decades, using conventional methods, mostly regulatory hearings, protest marches, petitions, lawsuits, etc, it's time to recognize corporate harms as merely symptoms of allowing corporations to claim constitutional "rights", sometimes referred to as corporate personhood.
Join with Community Rights activists, be trained and guided, to pass enforceable laws that prohibit harms, by reigning in corporate "rights". Join 200 communities in nine states which have already done so. Paul Cienfuegos offers his knowledge and expertise as a leader in the Community Rights movement. His email address is Paul@CommunityRights.US. For a selection of Paul and others' writings, interviews, and speeches, and for more info on bringing Paul or other resource people to your community or registering for an upcoming teleconference workshop, go to www.CommunityRights.US

Sunday Morning Worship at 11AM on June 24th at the Federal Correctional Institution in Sheridan, Oregon. An Interfaith gathering for Immigrant Justice to pray and protest the internment of 123 refugees as part of President Trump's "Zero Tolerance" policy whereby parents were separated from their children before being jailed in facilities throughout the United States.
"Wade in the Water" and other songs were combined with prayers, teaching moments, and readings from the Bible - Mark and the Romans.
President Trump and Jeff Sessions, the Attorney General of the United States portray citizens objecting to the Zero Tolerance Policy as "radicals" and "elites" who want open borders and don't care about crime. Such a characterization could not be further from the truth. This video shows Portlanders from all walks of life across a wide spectrum of religions and cultures who have come together, led by love, outside the gates of a federal prison housing 123 detainees to express their opinion that the zero tolerance policy is immoral and show support to those who have been detained.
The folks at Freedom for Immigration (https://www.freedomforimmigrants.org/...) provide on their site detention maps and statistics for all immigrants in the system. Detention is big business in America.
Produced and filmed by Ruth Ann Barrett of Portland, Oregon as PDXdowntowner.

Speech before the American Public Works Association (APWA) Sustainability in Public Works Conference, July 27, 2011 in Portland, Oregon. Too often the debate over sustainability is brought down to a level of minutiae or a debate over whether or not climate change is real or not rather than understanding the importance of keeping the balance between the natural and man-made environment. He cites Rachel Carson, Jane Benyus, and David Orr as models of integrity and vision.
George Crombie is President of the APWA and a senior faculty member for public works administration in the MPA program at Norwich University military college in Vermont.
He was interviewed by Ruth Ann Barrett of EarthSayers.tv, voices of sustainability.
