70 million US Catholics can be a powerful force for change.When you’re working on Creation Care initiatives at your parish, what should you do you do next and how can you effectively promote EICDA within the context of Care for Creation? Here’s some ideas and resources for you regarding messaging, activities, educational events and promotion that have worked to engage parishioners! Speaker Bios: Andy Panelli is on the leadership team of CCL’s Catholic Action Team and is a member of the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Encyclical Working Group. Andy also leads a multi-parish Creation Care Team (CCT) in Vicariate V of the Archdiocese. Part of the mission of Andy’s CCT is to provide tools and event ideas to make other CCT’s in the Diocese more effective. Steve Coleman is a retired engineer and businessman. He has been involved with CCL and Catholic outreach for 6 years. Steve has given presentations, help start a care for creation group in is church and written a booklet to lead Catholics from our moral call to care for creation to supporting the Energy Innovation Act. We could use bio waste instead of mineral oil to produce plastic. Is this a modern fairy tale or already a reality? In her TEDx Talk, Andrea explains how we are already able to produce plastic from sources like chicory roots or grass and shares her vision & concepts for on-farm biorefineries that help to recycle nutrients in a sustainable way. Andrea Kruse studied chemistry at the University of Heidelberg and after having received her Ph.D. at the University of Heidelberg and the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KIT today), she became junior group leader and later group leader in Karlsruhe. For her habilitation at the University of Darmstadt, Andrea focused on new concepts for the production of hydrogen from carbohydrates, one of the major components of biomass. Since 2012, Andrea is a professor for conversion technologies of bio-based resources at the University Hohenheim and has, among other research focuses, great interest in the conversion of biomass into basic chemicals and energy carriers. Besides her research efforts and lectures, Andrea is board member of a variety of committees and institutes as e.g. the Deutsches Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ) in Leipzig. Jens Ulltveit-Moe, founder of UMOE, gives a talk on why sugarcane ethanol is an important solution for reducing CO2 emissions from transportation. Jens Ulltveit-Moe is the founder and Chairman of the board in UMOE. On completing his education he was a consultant with McKinsey in New York and London, before developing the oil tanker division of the SHV group in the Netherlands. He headed the turnaround of the shipping company Knut Knutsen OAS from 1980. In 1984 he established Umoe AS and has since expanded the group to create one of Norway's largest privately-owned companies. He plays an active role in Norwegian society and is a former president of both the Norwegian Shipowners' Association and the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise. He is elected Chairman of the Board of Cicero and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Environmental Defense Fund Ltd. Europe. He holds a Master's degree in Business and Economics from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH) and a Master's degree in International Affairs from Colombia University. Event hosted by CLG Europe’s Materials and Products Taskforce. The EU has recently made great strides towards meeting its climate goals. However, less focus has been placed on the key role that a circular economy plays. This event highlights the critical role that building a circular European economy plays to meet the EU’s climate goals. This event is also an opportunity to showcase the work of the CLG Europe’s Taskforce for Climate Neutral and Circular Materials and Products (‘The Materials and Products Taskforce’) 12 months after its launch at COP26. The policy briefing highlights the critical role that building a circular European economy plays in meeting the EU’s climate goals. Furthermore, this paper sets out that the challenges and recommendations for policymakers to speed up the transition to a circular economy. The Materials and Products warmly welcomed the EU’s newly proposed Ecodesign for Sustainable Product Regulation, part of the EU Circular Economy Action Plan, which can be a key framework Directive to drive change. For maximum impact, however, there is also a need to address wider issues, and to help resolve a series of challenges which businesses encounter when driving to become more circular and sustainable.
