This innovation replaces high-CO2 materials like concrete and steel across diverse applications.

At the Ventana Wildlife Society sanctuary, Corwin helps prepare juvenile condors for release. Once critically endangered with only 22 individuals in 1982, the population has rebounded to approximately 500 worldwide, with 300 now free-flying. This remarkable success, involving captive breeding and tagging, demonstrates dedicated conservation.

Corwin learns about the challenges of protecting North America's largest flying bird, which has a slow reproductive rate. Later, he travels to Massachusetts to assist the Department of Fish and Wildlife in saving the unique saltmarsh sparrow, a species endemic to East Coast habitats.

Section 7 requires federal agencies to consult with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or NOAA when their actions might affect listed species, resulting in an incidental take statement. In contrast, Section 10 enables non-federal entities to obtain incidental take permits (ITPs) by developing a Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP). The primary difference lies in who is involved: federal agencies for Section 7, and private, state, or local entities for Section 10.

Crucially, while Section 7 consultations can stand alone, Section 10's HCPs always require an accompanying Section 7 consultation. This is because issuing an ITP is a federal action, necessitating its own consultation.
