The O-RAN Alliance is promoting the introduction of open architecture in mobile networks, particularly in the Radio Access Network (RAN). The RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) is being actively developed for 5G RAN automation and optimization. An ecosystem of xApp/rApp, which includes a variety of AI/ML applications running on the RIC platform, is also being created. In 2013, JP Viñals joined Activists Coming To Inform Our Neighborhood (ACTION), a leadership group in the Hunts Point neighborhood of South Bronx, NY. His aim was to further his knowledge about the environmental and social issues facing his neighborhood. Hunts Point houses New York’s largest food distribution center. This means an average of 15,000 trucks ply its expressways and streets on a daily basis, making the streets unsafe for local residents and causing immense air pollution. The neighborhood has some of the highest asthma rates in the country. Viñals was especially interested in creating green spaces to alleviate air pollution and in teaching youth how grow their own food. A year into his time with ACTION, he was voted president. He then focused the group’s work on championing a campaign to transform the defunct Sheridan Expressway into a vibrant boulevard. The 1.25-mile expressway restricts access to the revitalized Bronx River, new parks and the South Bronx Greenway. It forces trucks to drive through neighborhood streets and cars to idle in traffic, harming pedestrians and restricting safe biking. A long-running campaign, spearheaded by the Southern Bronx River Watershed Alliance, seeks to demolish the expressway and replace it with affordable housing, hospitals and green open space. Viñals’ group has been supporting the campaign by leading presentations about it at various South Bronx schools, attending town hall meetings, and organizing a first-of-its-kind youth summit focused on educating local youth and their parents about the environmental issues facing South Bronx.

Christof Koch is a prominent neuroscientist and researcher focused on the neural bases of consciousness and the mechanisms and processes that underlie conscious experience. Born in 1956 in the United States to German parents, Koch grew up in Morocco, Germany, and Canada before settling in the U.S. He studied physics and philosophy at the University of Tübingen in Germany, and earned his Ph.D. in biophysics from the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics. Koch's career is distinguished by his extensive research on the brain, particularly the visual cortex, and his development of theories about the nature and mechanisms of consciousness. He has collaborated with notable researchers like Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA, and their work has significantly influenced the scientific understanding of consciousness. Koch served as a professor at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) for several decades before becoming the Chief Scientist and President of the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where he has led pioneering research efforts to map, analyze, and understand the brain's complex functions. In this talk Federal Minister of Climate Change in Pakistan shares the efforts made by government to fight for a better future. Malik Amin Aslam is currently the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Climate Change (Federal Minister) as well as honorarily serving as the elected Global Vice President of IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). He has previously chaired the flagship “Green Growth initiative” for the KPK in Pakistan – which included the mass a forestation “Billion Tree Tsunami” project. From 2002-07 he has served as a Member of Parliament and from 2004-07 as the Minister of State for Environment (Government of Pakistan) and, in this capacity, has been the architect of the country’s National Policies on environment and climate change. During this period Malik Amin Aslam, worked as the Prime Minister’s special envoy for reform of the UN governance system. Malik Amin Aslam has also had the privilege of chairing the G77+China negotiations group and leading Pakistan’s climate change negotiations at various COP meeting since 1999. He has recently been chosen to serve on the high level “International Advisory Council” for the Eco-Forum Global – the leading environmental think-tank advising the Government of China. Mr. Malik is an electrical engineer with an MBA from McGill University and an MSc from Oxford University where he completed his thesis on the utility of the “emissions trading” concept within the context of managing the Climate Change issue. Mehul Manjeshwar's mantra for a sustainable future is to look at people, planet and profits. The behind the scenes of a product is just as important as how the product is used and how it is disposed of. Mehul gives us a more wholesome perspective on the entire process and how it can be made to be more sustainable for the environment. Mehul Manjeshwar, born and raised in Qatar and Canada, currently leads the marketing and sustainability communications at Bare Necessities. He shares the story of the brand through meaningful partnerships, words, and actions. Being a firm believer in the impact of communication, raising awareness, and education being the foundation of change, he has always been passionate about sustainability. Mehul completed his MBA in the field to learn about the life cycle of products and how every process has an impact on the environment. He spent years studying and volunteering his time for environmental causes in Canada, Costa Rica, and Indonesia to raise awareness of the problems that our world faces today. Mehul is a Climate Reality Leader having had the opportunity to be trained during the Climate Reality Leadership Corps with former Vice President Al Gore among other knowledgeable experts in the sustainability field.
