He is known for the Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development - also known as The Natural Step Framework, after the not for profit promoting and applying it - a framework that lays out the system conditions for sustainability, that arose from his consultations with municipalities, businesses, government departments, environmental organizations, and the arts community. Having secured the imprimatur of the King of Sweden. Professor Karl-Henrik is an internationally renowned change agent and Blue Planet Prize laureate. WINNIPEG, MARCH 30, 2017 — The world premiere of the film “Our Tomorrows, Today: Wahbung 1971” (Produced by MFNERC: Nicole Magne and David Robertson) took place at the Eckhardt Gramatte Hall at the University of Winnipeg. A number of witnesses to and writers of the original Wahbung 1971 document, commissioned and released by then Manitoba Indian Brotherhood Grand Chief Dave Courchene Sr. in 1971, were in the film or in attendance at the premiere, including some of the Women of Wahbung – Chief Jean Folster, Janet Fontaine, Verna Kirkness and Jocelyn Bruyere; and Dave Courchene Jr., son of the late Grand Chief Dave Courchene Sr. In the early 1970s, the First Nations people of Manitoba came together to reject Pierre Trudeau’s controversial White Paper written in 1969. From this historic movement came an influential position paper known as Wahbung, Our Tomorrows. This short documentary explores the history of Wahbung, Our Tomorrows, and shows how it was a catalyst for First Nations peoples’ right to self-determination. Join us to discover how astronomer Vera Rubin's persistence, after her work was initially dismissed, finally convinced the scientific community that dark matter might exist. It is now taken for granted that the universe is mostly dark, made up of particles that are undetectable even by our most powerful telescopes. This discovery of the possible existence of dark matter signaled a Copernican-like revolution in astronomy: not only are we no longer the center of the universe, but even the stuff we’re made of appears to be insignificant. By showing that some astronomical objects seem to exaggerate gravity’s grip, Rubin played a pivotal role in this discovery. Yeager tells the story of Rubin’s childhood fascination with stars, and her scientific education at Vassar and Cornell. She became a rarity, a woman in science, and her findings were equally incredible to her colleagues. Since some observatories still restricted women from using their large telescopes, Rubin was unable to collect her own data until a decade after she had earned her Ph.D. But in 1993 she received the National Medal of Science for her groundbreaking work. She’s also been memorialized with a ridge on Mars, an asteroid, a galaxy, and most recently the Vera C. Rubin Observatory—the first national observatory named after a woman.
