What if we bring entrepreneurial zeal to the challenge of responsibly addressing climate change and carbon reduction at the state level? Leveraging resources, telling the truth, and seeking better collaboration between government and the private sector all offer opportunity for progress. David Giuliani is a Northwest serial entrepreneur, electrical engineer and inventor. David grew up in the semiconductor industry, designing some of the world’s first LED products. He then pivoted to medical applications, resulting in over a dozen US patents and multiple business successes. David co-invented the Sonicare(R) toothbrush, and as CEO it became the fastest growing private company in the US, before selling it to Philips Electronics. David also co-invented the Clarisonic(R) face brush, and sold that business to L’Oreal. He was the national Small Business Person of the Year, and the national Entrepreneur of the Year for manufacturing. Best of all he and his teams had fun doing it. David now applies his talents to improving society. He and Howard Behar, former Starbucks president, founded the Washington Business Alliance to solve the state’s most critical problems. The Alliance launched the Low Carbon Prosperity Institute last year, sensing the need to reframe climate issues from “win-lose” to “win-win.” David lives in Friday Harbor and in the Seattle area, and enjoys his family, nature, photography, music, and the human spirit. As principal founder of the Clean Coalition, Craig Lewis has spearheaded the drive to create resilient, reliable, redundant and sustainable energy grid solutions that are available NOW. Craig studied industrial-scale solar energy deployment in Germany, when that country brought renewables-driven energy resilience to their entire electrical grid. These micro-grids not only generate power locally, where it is needed, they keep generating the energy needed to support core emergency services in times of disaster. Craig Lewis, with an MBA and MSEE from the University of Southern California and a BSEE from the University of California, Berkeley,.has over 30 years of experience in the renewables, wireless, semiconductor, and banking industries. Principal founder of Clean Coalition, Craig has spearheaded the drive to create resilient, reliable, redundant and sustainable energy grid solutions that are available NOW. As Vice President of Government Relations at GreenVolts, he brought solar energy solutions into practice by successfully following California’s Renewable Portfolio Standards. Jacqueline Patterson is the Director of the NAACP Environmental and Climate Justice Program. Since 2007 Patterson has served as coordinator & co-founder of Women of Color United. Jacqui Patterson has worked as a researcher, program manager, coordinator, advocate and activist working on women‘s rights, violence against women, HIV&AIDS, racial justice, economic justice, and environmental and climate justice. Patterson served as a Senior Women’s Rights Policy Analyst for ActionAid where she integrated a women’s rights lens for the issues of food rights, macroeconomics, and climate change as well as the intersection of violence against women and HIV&AIDS. Previously, she served as Assistant Vice-President of HIV/AIDS Programs for IMA World Health providing management and technical assistance to medical facilities and programs in 23 countries in Africa and the Caribbean. Patterson served as the Outreach Project Associate for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, and Research Coordinator for Johns Hopkins University. She also served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Jamaica, West Indies.
