Conservationist Luwi Nguluka challenges audiences with lesser-known facts about African wildlife and conservation. Her passion for inclusivity and diversity in the field stems from a childhood in the African Wilderness, including the Okavango Delta. Representing Zambia's next generation of conservationists, she leads innovative awareness campaigns.

These initiatives include "Women For Conservation," Zambia's first network for women in the field, and the "This is not Game" bushmeat campaign, which combats illegal trade devastating carnivore and prey species. Daniel Magallon, featured at TEDxBasel June 2020, is a sustainable energy technology, finance, and market specialist. He focuses on utilizing pandemic recovery plans to tackle climate change, drawing on extensive project implementation experience across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa.

Since 2007, Magallon has served as CEO of BASE, a Swiss organization dedicated to scaling investments in climate change solutions. His work develops market-based business models and financial mechanisms, including “Energy Savings Insurance,” “Financing RE through remittances,” “On-bill Financing,” and the “Cooling as a Service” model, recognized by the Global Innovation Lab in 2019.

In 2008, fifth-grader Cassandra Lin founded Turn Grease Into Fuel (TGIF) after learning used cooking oil could be converted into affordable, clean-burning biodiesel for home heating. TGIF partners with local restaurants to collect kitchen grease, which is then recycled and distributed to charities assisting families with heating needs. This initiative has already helped offset over two million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.

Lin and her team further championed environmental efforts by drafting Rhode Island's Used Cooking Oil Recycling Act in 2011. Passed into law in 2012, this legislation expanded TGIF's reach, establishing a robust network that effectively addresses community needs while significantly reducing waste and pollution.

The workshop included presentations from the Climate Action Reserve and the American Carbon Registry on carbon offset standards and forest project requirements. Great River Energy discussed carbon policy from an energy provider's perspective, while the Aitkin County Land Department updated attendees on a Northwoods carbon offset project. The event was organized by the Aitkin County Land Department, The Forest Guild, Northeastern Area - US Forest Service, and Dovetail Partners.
