"JustUs" depicts a family in New Mexico's Española Valley ministering to their community amidst an epidemic of heroin addiction and political corruption. This region, homeland to Indigenous tribes and site of the 1680 Pueblo Rebellion against Spanish colonization, carries deep historical traumas. Spanish is a dominant cultural influence, and most residents are bi-racial. Despite its enchanting landscape, the valley suffers from endemic poverty; New Mexico ranks 49th in education. Job opportunities are scarce, with drug distribution often serving as the primary income.
