His distinguished career includes extensive research on the brain, particularly the visual cortex, and developing theories of consciousness. He notably collaborated with Francis Crick, co-discoverer of DNA's structure.

Koch served as a professor at Caltech for decades before becoming Chief Scientist and President of the Allen Institute for Brain Science, where he led pioneering brain mapping efforts. An influential figure, he has authored several books and speaks widely, advocating for a scientifically grounded approach to understanding the mind.

Eighteen-year-old David Baldwin, inspired by the Everglades, developed a passion for Florida's ecology. At 14, he joined the Everglades Restoration Ambassadors, a nonprofit dedicated to removing nonnative plants. He also educates elementary students using his own modules.

Baldwin's educational programs stem from his research, which began in 2017. Interning at Florida Atlantic University, he studied Caesar's weed, investigating its germination and spread. His findings led him to theorize land-management practices, including hands-on removal and prescribed burns, to control this invasive species.

Her work integrates psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics to explore social understanding and interaction. She focuses on gaze behavior, empathy, perspective-taking, and social decision-making. Recently, she investigates how meditation-based training can modify socio-affective and cognitive capacities.

He directs the Sustasis Foundation, an Oregon non-profit focused on urban issues, and has held academic appointments in seven countries. His experience includes consulting for Portland and Metro, teaching at the University of Oregon, and managing the pioneering Orenco Station transit-oriented development.

With a keen interest in Portland's urban successes and lessons, Dr. Mehaffy considers the city a second home, though he now lives in the Columbia Gorge.
