An event titled "Women in Action for Climate Justice and a Just Transition: Path to COP30 and Beyond" brought together diverse global women leaders. They highlighted the importance of a Just Transition and presented comprehensive, intersectional strategies to advance community-led climate solutions, phase out fossil fuels, protect democracy, and strengthen the climate justice movement.

Discussions focused on critical topics such as forest protection, reforestation, gender-responsive climate policies, fossil fuel resistance, food sovereignty, Indigenous and human rights, Rights of Nature, and strategic campaigns for COP30 and future climate action.

Prominent speakers included Thilmeeza Hussain (UN), Eriel Tchekwie Deranger (2024 Climate Breakthrough Award Winner), Bridget Burns (WEDO), Tzeporah Berman (Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty), Colette Pichon-Battle (Taproot Earth), Jozileia Kaingang (ANMIGA), Taily Terena (2025 Global Citizen Prize Winner), and Casey Camp-Horinek (Ponca Nation Environmental Ambassador). The event was moderated by Osprey Orielle Lake, Founder and Executive Director of Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN).

The Global Women's Assembly for Climate Justice: Path to COP30 and Beyond, hosted by the Women's Earth and Climate Network (WECAN) from June 23-28, 2025, featured the panel "Rematriating the Land: Indigenous Sovereignty and the Land Back Movement" on June 24.

Prominent Indigenous leaders participated, including Bryanna R. Brown, Janene Yazzie, Taily Terena, and Pluma Bárbara Moreno Torres, with moderation by Dr. Lyla June Johnston. These leaders represented diverse nations from Canada, Diné Bikéyah, Brazil, and Puerto Rico.

The assembly convened over 125 grassroots women leaders, advocates, and policymakers from 50 countries. Across 25 panels, participants showcased varied visions and strategies to accelerate a transformative path toward a healthy and just world.

On December 5, WECAN hosted a UN Side Event at COP28, titled "Women Implementing Climate Justice Solutions to Mitigate and Adapt to the Climate Crisis." Grassroots, Indigenous, and frontline women, along with global organization representatives, presented diverse climate justice strategies, including forest protection, Indigenous rights, agro-ecology, and a Just Transition.

The event featured powerful testimonies from diverse women leaders. A special appearance by Sonia Guajajara, Brazil's Minister of Indigenous Peoples, underscored the vital role of women's leadership globally. WECAN is honored to continue its long-standing collaboration with Minister Guajajara.

At the conference, WECAN also launched its report, "Justice-Based Climate Finance for COP30 and Beyond."
