About This Collection

Founder Kenny Ausubel coined the term Bioneers in 1990 to describe an emerging culture. Bioneers are social and scientific innovators from all walks of life and disciplines who have peered deep into the heart of living systems to understand how nature operates, and to mimic "nature's operating instructions" to serve human ends without harming the web of life.

The Bioneers Conference is a leading-edge forum presenting breakthrough solutions for people and planet. Check out Bioneers on YouTube.

Erin Matariki Carr, from Ngāi Tūhoe and Ngāti Awa, is a lawyer and member of RIVER in Aotearoa New Zealand. She champions the intergenerational Māori resistance movement, advocating for constitutional transformation to honor Te Tiriti o Waitangi 1840. This movement challenges human superiority over land, exemplified by the legal personality granted to Te Urewera rainforest, Ngāi Tūhoe homelands. This initiative removes human ownership, establishing a new law focused on "human management for the benefit of the land."

Carr previously helped implement the world-first Te Urewera legislation. Currently, she leads projects at RIVER, collaborating with teams like Tūmanako Consultants and Te Kuaka NZA on constitutional transformation. Learn more at bioneers.org.
