Black soldier flies (BSF) offer a practical, scalable solution for converting organic waste into valuable agricultural inputs. The BioDAF II project in Grand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire, exemplifies this by transforming urban waste into nutrient-dense protein feed for livestock and rich organic fertilizer.

This bioeconomy approach strengthens food system resilience, reduces dependence on imported feed and chemical fertilizers, and creates income opportunities for vulnerable communities, particularly women and youth. By reintegrating waste into local production, BSF support efficient, sustainable agriculture.
