The 2024 Indigenous Media Conference, organized by the Indigenous Journalists Association, took place from July 25 to 27 in Oklahoma City, United States. The event brought together Indigenous journalists, media professionals, and experts from around the world to discuss and address the pressing issues faced by Indigenous media practitioners. The conference also provided an opportunity to celebrate their contributions and achievements. Going Beyond The Land Acknowledgement with Elder Dr. Dave Courchene

Recording of a visual conversation with Elder Dr. Dave Courchene — Nii Gaani Aki Innini (Leading Earth Man) — a respected Elder and Knowledge Keeper of the Anishinaabe Nation who has devoted his life to sharing Indigenous knowledge, carrying a message of hope, peace and environmental stewardship. In 2002, Elder Dr. Courchene founded the Turtle Lodge International Centre for Indigenous Education and Wellness, a sacred lodge recognized internationally and by Indigenous Knowledge Keepers as well as the Assembly of First Nations and the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs as one of the most important gathering places for Indigenous Peoples in Canada.

In this video Elder Dr. Courchene shares the knowledge on how we can form deeper connection to the land that we move on. The conversation is followed by Q&A.

Moderator Valérie Courtois facilitates a dialogue amongst Miles Richardson, O.C.; Dr. David Suzuki; Dr. Nancy Turner; and Elder Dr. Dave Courchene, Jr.; on the need for reconciliation between Indigenous and Western scientific ways of knowing. In our first dialogue in this series - "Why Do We Need to Reconcile Ways of Knowing?" - these leaders in working at the confluence of Indigenous and scientific knowledge and decision making discuss the events, issues and relationships that made it clear that a national-scale dialogue to facilitate just reconciliation between the ways of knowing and ways of being of Indigenous Peoples and Canadians, and their respective governments, is needed. They speak to how such reconciliation between these different life-ways is the essential precondition for addressing a series of growing stewardship challenges we are facing, including escalating climate change and biodiversity loss, and for setting ourselves on the right footing as we move forward through and after the impacts of COVID-19. The Investment Leaders Group’s latest publication “Understanding the climate performance of investment funds – Part 2: A universal temperature score method”, is the final in a two-part series developed by CISL and the Investment Leaders Group published on Thursday, 29 July 2021. It proposes a simple, transparent and scientifically robust method that translates portfolio emissions into a metric expressed in degrees Celsius, to report portfolio alignment with the Paris ambition. The method aims to answer the question: “What would be the global mean temperature increase at the end of the century if the entire economy had the same emissions intensity as this portfolio?”. Chaired by Lucy Auden (Senior Programme Manager, Investment Leaders Group), the webinar features Dr Jake Reynolds (Executive Director, Sustainable Economy) setting the scene on why and how a temperature score can help investors understand their investment impact on climate stability, followed by a presentation on the methodology by Dr Pablo Salas Bravo (Prince of Wales Global Sustainability Fellow).
