Biodiversity

About This Collection

Biodiversity refers to the variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem. It is necessary for life to thrive on Earth.

Aldo Leopold, one of the great thinkers of conservation, observed more than half a century ago the importance of protecting species. "To keep every cog and wheel is the first precaution of intelligent tinkering," he wrote. Losing species is like throwing away one by one the engine parts of an airplane while flying.

Biodiversity is a major initiative of Conservation International.

Biodiversity conservation provides substantial benefits to meet immediate human needs, such as those for clean, consistent water flows; protection from floods and storms; and a stable climate.

Relay Walkthrough Video
August 29, 2017
This video shows you how to send texts through Relay with Ignite Change. As an Ignite Change texting volunteer, you’ll be helping us recruit, confirm, and follow-up with our supporters across the nation. To do this, we use a program called Relay which is a peer-to-peer texting service. Day-to-day, the texting assignments that you receive may be a little different. Sometimes, we invite people to attend events or hop on overview calls where they learn more about how to get involved. Whenever you sign up for a shift, you should get a notification in Slack when your assignment is ready on the day of your shift. Make sure to consult the Texting Team Dashboard for any updates on the day’s assignment. In the dashboard, you’ll also find a link to Relay. You’ll use that link to login to your account and begin your shift. Happy texting!
