For the first time, olive seeds have been deposited in the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, as part of an international security backup effort.

This crucial delivery was a collaborative initiative involving the FAO's International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, the International Olive Council, the Universities of Córdoba and Granada, Spain's Plant Genetic Resources Centre, and NordGen. The FAO Treaty enables countries to conserve, share, and utilize crop diversity.
