The SWM Programme promotes sustainable Devil's claw harvesting in Namibia #swmprogramme
February 23, 2026

Namibia supplies over 90% of the world's Devil's Claw, a protected species valued globally for its natural health benefits. Harvesting is strictly regulated to ensure its long-term availability and sustainability.

The international SWM Programme, co-funded by the EU and French agencies, partners with local conservancies to promote sustainable harvesting and fair prices. It is implemented by FAO, CIRAD, CIFOR-ICRAF, and WCS.
