https://www.fao.org/newsroom/story/more-shade-for-more-cocoa-in-c%C3%B4te-d-ivoire/en In Côte d'Ivoire, cocoa farmers are restoring degraded land and building resilience to climate change through agroforestry. Sylvie Sopie N'Gbesso doubled her cocoa production in just two years, while Nicole Kambou is scaling up sustainable cocoa farming through a cooperative that gives farmers access to equipment and labour. This story showcases two complementary FAO initiatives: PROMIRE, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which supports farmers in adopting zero-deforestation cocoa agroforestry, and SCOLUR-CI, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which strengthens cooperative models for sustainable cocoa production, landscape restoration and biodiversity conservation. Together, these initiatives are helping cocoa farmers protect forests, restore ecosystems and secure their livelihoods for generations to come.
